Buying a film camera on Amazon: what to look for
Compare simple reusable cameras and half-frame models, then check the seller, film format and included extras before ordering.

Before choosing a simple camera for your first roll, check which settings you can change. A reusable camera with fixed exposure settings needs a different approach to light from an SLR with adjustable shutter speed and aperture.
Two models to investigate
The Kodak M35 is a reusable 35mm camera with a 31mm fixed-focus lens, an f/10 aperture and a fixed 1/120-second shutter. You wind and rewind the film yourself. Those specifications come from Kodak’s licensed product page.
The Kodak Ektar H35 is a half-frame camera. It uses half of a standard 35mm frame for each picture, so a 36-exposure roll can give you about 72 photographs. Kodak’s H35 page describes the format and built-in flash.

Search Amazon for the exact model name, and read the specification section of the listing. Check it against the maker’s page, especially when several similar names appear in one search.
Think about the pictures you’ll take
With fixed shutter speed and aperture, you have fewer ways to respond to dim light. Check the recommended film speed and flash distance in the manual. A camera bought for sunny outings may need its flash at an indoor gathering.
Half-frame gives you more pictures on a roll, with a smaller negative for each one. Ask your lab whether it scans each half-frame separately.
Read the offer carefully
Check who sells the camera, its stated condition, and the return terms. Confirm whether film and the flash battery are included. Check the lens and battery requirements against the maker’s specifications.
Listings and availability vary by country. A prominent search result still needs the same checks for model, condition and seller.
If you want to set exposure yourself, compare these simple cameras with the SLRs in our camera catalog. Choosing a first camera will help you decide which controls you’d enjoy using.
